What was I thinking? I got on the plane in Minneapolis and suddenly I am in a marina in Marsdsen Cove, New Zealand. I left the comfort of the 'familiar' and the day-to-day routine of your average AARP retiree: a little exercise, the joy of a well-appointed kitchen in a cozy apartment, weekly volunteer commitments and social time with family and friends.
And now? Romance and adventure give way to the challenge of maintaining relationships with those 'back home', specifically children, while embracing all there is to learn about this beautiful lady called Wanderlust, the language of the sea and the skills of sailing. This novice has quite a way to go before book learning takes root in reality. To be honest, the ASA 101 course I took on a lake in Minnesota was, at best, a baby step!
Fortunately, seasoned sea gypsy Walt is not only willing partner in this adventure, but also brimming with knowledge (and stories and advice....).
So, come along with me on Wanderlust and I'll share my adventure with you...the good, the briny and the best that she has in store for Walt and me.
